Yellow Tree Theatre, 320 Fifth Ave. S.E. in Osseo, is thrilled to announce the world premiere of "Lena Long Legs," a one-act play by Yellow Tree founder Jessica Lind. Coming off of the sold-out run of her original work "Miracle on Christmas Lake," playwright Lind offers up a quirky and poignant tale with "Lena Long Legs," about a fashion model facing a career-threatening illness. With the help of Fridley, a wannabe rock star, and her kleptomaniac best friend, Tina, Lena navigates through the biggest challenge of her life: what to be when she grows up.
"Lena Long Legs" will be accompanied by "Anna and August," a one-act play by Minnesota playwright Don Zolidis. In this coming-of-age comedy, teenage angst is at its best. Anna is a purple belt in Tae Kwan Do and the smartest girl in school. Regrettably, her tendency to punch boys in the face has made her a less-than-desirable romantic prospect. That is, until a boy comes along who seems to appreciate her weirdness. Unfortunately, the course of weird love never did run smooth. A quirky play about the ups and downs of young love, "August and Anna" yanks at the heartstrings of anyone who's ever gone through puberty.
Yellow Tree Artistic Director, Jason Peterson is thrilled, once again, to be producing new work by Minnesota playwrights. "We've established from the very beginning that we're here to do something different," Peterson said. "People in this community have clearly been craving a new experience and we will continue to provide that for them."
These productions mark the middle of Yellow Tree's second season, and a hugely successful one at that.
Performances of "Lena Long Legs" and "Anna and August" will star Mary Fox, Ryan Nelson, Andrew Kraft and Rachel Davies. Show times will be Feb. 12 to March 14, Thursdays to Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m.
Tickets are $17 to $20 for general admission and $14 to $17 for students and seniors. Get tickets by calling the box office at 763-493-8733.
