The Delano football team knew it had to play a perfect game to defeat perennial conference powerhouse Glencoe-Silver Lake Friday night at Glencoe. That didn't happen and G-SL ran away with a 35-14 win.

The Panthers scored the game's first 28 points, including 21 points in the second quarter alone, which was a death sentence for a team that has allowed more than 14 points just once in six games this year.

"Turnovers really killed us," Delano coach Merrill Pavlovich said. "In the first half we had a fumble on our own 15-yard line and an interception on our own 2-yard line. That resulted in 14 points right there and turned the game around."

The Tigers attempted a comeback with a pair of scores, but the hole that had been dug early in the game was too deep to get out of.

"We had a nice long drive at the end of the second quarter and started the third quarter with another touchdown," Pavlovich said. "That got back into the game, but it wasn't enough to get us all the way back. We had another turnover deep in their territory and never got closer that 14 after that."

The Tigers also found out they may be without junior Darius Clare, who injured his ankle in the second half. Pavlovich said Clare was having a good game before the injury and said he was unsure about the severity of the injury or whether it would cause Clare to miss playing time.

The Tigers are now 3-2 in the Wright County Conference and 4-2 overall. Delano will return to action against Dassel-Cokato Friday at Delano looking to get back to their winning ways.

"We just can't make mistakes that put us in a bad position," Pavlovich said. "We had some critical mistakes (Friday) and it hurt us."
