Slumberland Furniture recently worked with the C.R.O.S.S. Food Shelf to help local families in need get a better night's sleep.

A portion of the proceeds from Slumberland's first annual bed race during Maple Grove Days in July was used to purchase five new beds. The beds were then provided to C.R.O.S.S. who distributed them to families who use their services.

Char Lake, a representative from C.R.O.S.S., said, "It's a hard thing to buy a new bed; they're expensive," noting that those receiving them would not have had the means to get new beds on their own.

Five families from Osseo, West Champlin, Dayton, Rogers and Maple Grove signed up to receive beds from C.R.O.S.S., not knowing that a brand new bed would be delivered to their home. Lake noted that the recipients were all very excited and appreciative to finally have a nice place to sleep.

"It's important for us to give back to the communities we do business in," said Ken Larson, CEO of Slumberland Furniture. "We hope that by giving these families a chance to get a better night's sleep, we can help make life a little easier for them as well."

The C.R.O.S.S. Food Shelf, located in Rogers, was established in 1977 to help people throughout the community get the essential items they need. Helping over 400 families each month, C.R.O.S.S. provides food, clothing, financial and emergency assistance and other services throughout Northwest Hennepin County. C.R.O.S.S. relies on donations from many sources in order to provide these valuable services.
